Four Young Professionals Shaping Vietnam’s Aquaculture Landscape 

In a world where technology and urbanization are rapidly reshaping society, a new generation of Vietnamese professionals is bringing fresh perspectives to agriculture, particularly in the field of aquaculture. Driven by passion, purpose, and innovation, this article highlights four Vietnamese young professionals who are redefining what it means to work in aquaculture. Their stories show that agriculture isn’t limited to traditional farming; rather, it offers diverse career possibilities, from research and technology to project management and fostering international partnerships. Through their journeys, they hope to inspire others to view agriculture and aquaculture as an exciting field with immense potential for positive impact and growth. Let’s explore how they are paving the way and encouraging the next generation to join them in building Vietnam’s aquaculture future based on principles of sustainability and innovation. 

The companies highlighted in this article are part of the ShrimpTech consortium, which is a collaboration of Vietnamese and Dutch companies that aim to enhance Vietnam’s position as a leading global producer and exporter of shrimp. The consortium will drive the net-zero transition of the shrimp sector in Vietnam, leading to improved efficiency, quality and profitability for mid-sized farmers. Since 2024, ShrimpTech has become a partner of the Empower Youth4Food campaign.  

 

Phan Thị Hoài Nhi: Sales Manager at Skretting 

As a sales manager at Skretting, a leading aquaculture feed company, Phan Thị Hoài Nhi has dedicated herself to the aquaculture industry for over five years. Motivated by the opportunity to travel, build a rewarding career, and contribute to Vietnam’s growing aquaculture sector, she works closely with distributors to develop strategies that benefit local farmers. She acknowledges the competitive nature of the industry, but sees it as a challenge that drives her to innovate. “Aquaculture has the potential to help meet global food demand, and I am grateful to contribute to a sector with such a promising future,” Nhi shares. Her advice to aspiring youngsters in agriculture is to dive into the field, explore the many aspects, and develop strong soft skills to stay adaptable.

Pham Bao Đang: Project Manager at Rynan Aquaculture 

Phạm Bảo Đăng, a dedicated professional at Rynan Aquaculture, became passionate about aquaculture through an unexpected opportunity to work with the visionary founder of Rynan: Nguyễn Thanh Mỹ. Inspired by the founder’s dedication to transforming the Vietnamese shrimp industry, Đăng joined Rynan and has spent four years researching and developing products to make aquaculture more sustainable. His team’s innovative Tomgoxy model, a high-oxygen shrimp farming system, has already garnered over 60 patents worldwide, marking a significant achievement in the field. Đăng emphasizes the potential of aquaculture to boost Vietnam’s economy and create sustainable livelihoods, especially as international investment in the sector continues to grow. He advises young people entering the field to stay persistent and always strive to learn, believing that these qualities are key to solving complex challenges.

Tran Đau Nhat Hoà: Project Manager at Omvest 

Trần Đậu Nhật Hoà, a project manager in the seafood sector at Omvest, combines his roots in farming with his role in international agricultural partnerships. Coming from a farming family, he understands the challenges faced by Vietnamese farmers, and he channels this knowledge into projects that bridge local farming practices with advanced technologies. One of Hoà’s recent initiatives combines shrimp farming with mangrove planting, an innovative model for sustainable water treatment supported by the Vietnamese and foreign governments. “I am excited to see how collaboration with international partners can enhance our seafood production and environmental practices,” he says. His advice for aspiring professionals? Cultivate resilience, stay curious, and learn to connect the dots between diverse perspectives to find effective solutions.

Hoàng Duy Phúc: General Manager at ShrimpVet Research Center 

As General Manager of ShrimpVet Research Center, Hoàng Duy Phúc is on the cutting edge of aquaculture research in Vietnam. Growing up in the Mekong Delta, Phúc developed an early passion for agriculture that led him to pursue a degree in aquaculture. At ShrimpVet, he and his team conduct extensive research on shrimp and fish care, collaborating with over 40 partners globally and completing more than 400 projects. His team’s work drives forward the sector’s technology and knowledge, with Phúc seeing aquaculture as a field ripe with potential for boosting the economy and supporting Vietnamese farmers. He believes that success in this industry requires perseverance, adaptability, and a dedication to lifelong learning. “Interacting with farmers and witnessing their dedication is one of the most rewarding parts of my work,” he says, “and I encourage young people to explore agriculture with an open mind, as it’s an evolving industry with countless opportunities.”

Empower Youth4Food Campaign – Vietnam Chapter 

Each of these young professionals exemplify the dynamic opportunities that aquaculture offers, far beyond traditional farming.
